Hey there, I’m A'layeah Joisanne. I’m a writer/director from New Jersey.
Miss A’layeah Joisanne is a filmmaker, actress, writer, and director. Her first name comes from the Swahili origin meaning to ascend. She is a person who is not afraid to dream. A’layeah is on her way to become a successful actress, writer, director and producer. She currently attends Bloomfield College and enjoys making films whenever she gets a chance to hold a camera. Her passion, dedication, and perseverance has landed her many opportunities in the entertainment industry at the of 22. Since the day that A’layeah was born she was destined to be a star. At the age of thirteen after attending a program in East Orange, Harambee Youth TV and Film, A’layeah’s love for filmmaking began to spark and since then she has been creating powerful and heartfelt films that will move anyone who watches them. In 2013 during A’layeah’s senior year in High School she appeared in the Montclair Times for winning the Women In Media-Newark Cell Phone Cinema Contest and winning a silver medal coming in 2nd place at the ACT-SO Competition representing the Montclair Branch. She had the opportunity to be interviewed over the phone by Della Crews on Spotlight NJ discussing her winning film. That same month she was the spotlight in an online magazine called SistasKeeperMagazine.
In 2014 A’layeah won 2nd place for her short film at the annual Women's History Month Film Festival. She also had another chance to be featured in SistasKeeperMagazine but this time as the cover! She had another chance to featured on Della Crews Spotlight NJ where she went to the studio and did a 10 minute segment about her upcoming career as a filmmaker.
A’layeah has starred in an feature film called “Interludes II: Beautiful Destroyer” that was released in 2015. On her free time A’layeah loves to commit her time doing community service. She has given back to her community by volunteering with nonprofit organizations such as Kids Who Care, Inc. and NoCane Inc. During the holiday in 2012 she wrapped and presented Christmas gifts to people who were in homeless shelters, foster care homes and other families who were in crisis in communities in Essex County. She has also participated in a telethon with Kids Who Care, Inc., and NoCane Inc., which included giving Christmas gifts to families that were affected by Hurricane Sandy.

She created a short film titled “The Messiah Story” for her church to enjoy on Easter Sunday in March of 2014. She is also a Delta GEM Alumni of the Montclair Alumnae Chapter and has been involved in numerous community service activities.
In the summer of 2014 A’layeah attended a program called the “WEEN Academy” (Women Entertainment Empowerment Network) created by Valeisha Jones, Sabrina Thompson, Lauren Lake and Kristi Henderson. It focuses on young ladies between the ages of 18-22 who were interested in getting into the entertainment industry. She attended the intense 4 week crash course! Industry professionals from all over was able to talk to the 2014 WEEN Academy class as well as give advice about the entertainment industry. She was able to volunteer at the 2014 Art for Life Gala held at Russell Simmons house.
In School A’layeah has consistently remained on the Dean’s List since she began college in the spring of 2014. Last semester, the fall of 2017 A’layeah made the Dean’s list but this time with High Honors!
A’layeah not only enjoys filmmaking, but wants to eventually have her own teen mentoring program for girls who are interested in the arts. She wants to help them follow their dreams and encourage them. She feels that it is especially important, for young adolescent girls, to know their worth in society. In her community she doesn't see programs that young teen girls can benefit from and be encouraged to follow their dreams. She believes that they do have dreams, but there is no support to back it up. A’layeah knows that nothing can be done without the help of God and leaning on his strength and believing she knows that her future in these fields will succeed.
You’ve got to follow your passion. You’ve got to figure out what it is you love–who you really are. And have the courage to do that. I believe that the only courage anybody ever needs is the courage to follow your own dreams.” ― Oprah Winfrey
